Tis the season for harvesting timber. When the ground is frozen it is easier to not only get into swampy areas but the heavy machinery doesn't rut up the ground. Since the road past my house is a major artery into county forest land I'm often following fully loaded timber trucks going toward town and following empty trucks from town back toward home. I didn't notice them as much last year. Would assume that's because this year we have less than a foot of snow pack and last year ... well ... you had to dig into the snow banks just to find the trees.
