Leopard Frog
Sunset when Indy and I took a walk down the driveway. About 1/2 way down the drive I found a Monarch butterfly on the gravel. The forecast tonight includes the possibility of snow and I was pretty sure an insect w/o shelter would freeze. I went back to the house and grabbed a plastic container. I carefully scooped up the butterfly (which could only manage an open and closing of it's wings in protest) and placed it in my terrarium. A quick google told me that the adult form of the Monarch only drinks liquids. Put some fruit juice in a very shallow dish in the terrarium too. Don't know if the little thing will live. The abrupt change in temps might have been enough to kill it or, as I found on-line, it could be close to the end of it's few months long life span anyway. However, I just couldn't leave this last vestige of summer out on such a cold night.
