Snow on the ski hill

Saturday was First Snow here.  I was able to get a combined picture of autumn color and snow on the ski runs - a first for me.   I had library duty in the morning and by the time I got home the snow had melted - the ground is still too warm for it to stick around long.  My house guest, the Monarch butterfly, was obviously feeling better. He was fluttering in the south corner of the terrarium.  I had planned on waiting until Thursday when temps would be a bit warmer to let him go.  However, the sun was out and there were strong winds blowing to the south.  I put my hand into the terrarium.  He climbed on and hung there until we were outside and w/ a flutter of his wings he caught a strong gust and was away.  Time to face the fact that one of our nicest summers was gone and embrace autumn.  Made the bed w/ the flannel sheets.
