Snowy Owl
Brent was looking out a window when he sat up straight and said, "Whoa, that bird is big." Then he went outside (temp is -2 F) in his stocking feet. He came back to say there was an owl on top of my roof. I snatched up my camera and went out (first putting on shoes) and, sure enough, there was an owl on my roof. I perused my bird books before confirming it was a yearling snowy owl. According to my books, I live in the southern most reaches of it's normal habitat though I've never seen one around before. It's built for the low temps we've been having - no exposed ears, feet and beak areas heavily feathered, large bird. Hope she finds enough to eat around here (there are plenty of pigeons, rabbits, and squirrels) - would like to see more of her.

What a beautiful bird.
Hopefully he'll make your roof his temporary home!
Great mice catchers, too!

lemmings must be in short supply up north in Canada. Two years ago snowy owls made it to the Madison area. They aren't shy. A few of us were talking about them at the pool because we saw them that day.
Neat picture. I think this means good luck this year. :-) Barb
