Tamarack Needles

The heifer freshened (had her calf) on Sunday. She just wasn't interested in pushing when it was time for her calf to be born. The dairy owners finally decided to step in and help w/ the delivery by "pulling" the calf. They put a call into the vet and then proceeded in getting lines around the calf's front legs and "walking" the calf's shoulders past the cow's pelvis bones and out. While the calf was eventually born, in it's struggle it put a leg through the cow's uterus. The vet was able to stop the bleeding but the cow still lost a lot of blood. The owners decided to let her rest up before taking her to the parlor for milking. Today, she was finally strong enough (she certainly was feisty enough) to milk. Surprisingly both the heifer and the calf are both doing well. Definitely a cause for a Happy New Year!
