Shaggy Scalycap
Passed Carol, the dairy owner, as I walked into work. "You smell good!" she said and then quickly added, "Not that you usually smell bad." I'd washed my clothes last Friday and hadn't taken a shower since then either. Decided it was that mineral block I bought and tossed in the back of the car. It has a strong apple scent that has permeated the whole car. The old block was almost gone but I hadn't put this one out since rifle deer season started. I got on the DNR website and read that it's OK to put out salt block for deer even during hunting season. Donned my blaze orange jacket and cap and carried the block out to a knoll in the meadow beyond the house. I put the block in the same spot each time and there is now a hole there about two feet across and six inches deep. Deer actually prefer licking the soil where the salt and minerals have dissolved from the block. Go figure - "Eat dirt" is a good thing to a deer.

Good to know! I thought our salt lick was illegal. I'll take care of reservations for the cabin in June.
