Found this little guy on the path today. Odd to see a snake out this late in the season. He wasn't catching some rays since it was raining and overcast. He can't be looking for a meal since he was so lethargic an earthworm would have had to crawl into his mouth for him to catch it -and- at these temps his body wouldn't have been able to digest it. When the thermometer falls into the low 50's, snakes go underground for brumation (their form of hibernation). I didn't touch him but left him on the trail. He'll have to find his own cozy little hole for the winter.
