Sunrise

Ordered some Charlie Chan movies from the library. The ones I got were made in the 30's and 40's. Some movies we saw as children (No - I'm not that old, they were already reruns when I first viewed them) seem very dated when we see them again as adults but I was just as enchanted by these today. Unfortunately, movies from that era are often full of stereotypes. The case for race has been debated concerning the Charlie Chan movies. On one hand, the character spoke stilted English and made quaint Confucius "quotes". On the other, in an era of the "yellow peril" and the comic book master villain Fu Manchu, the Charlie Chan character was portrayed as both intelligent and heroic. I just enjoy the movies - a cozy murder mystery w/ a little humor thrown in.

We love Charlie Chan movies, too. Thirty years ago, we could still see reruns on TV. Number One son was always saying something like...Gee,Pop and Charlie would have to give him a "lesson" with one of his "sayings".
