Arrow-leaved Tear-thumb
My friends and I ate out at a busy restaurant one night in the Big City. We opted to sit in their enclosed outside area since it was perfect weather. As we talked and waited for our food, a patron walked out of the restaurant, past our table, stopped, and said, "You are teachers, right?" Silence. Since we only ever had one profession in common, I piped up, "No, computer programmers." He looked a little puzzled and walked away. Kris said she had noticed he and his party watching us as we walked through to our table. Maybe they had talked about what they thought we did for a living and he elected to find out. Of course, that started a discussion at our table of why we would look like teachers and was that a good thing or a bad thing? Not getting too far w/ that, we started talking about other answers we could have given him. I felt I could have answered we were all doctors and pulled it off. Nancy thought "cops" might have elicited an interesting response. Kathy said "Exotic dancers, of course"! Fortunately, our food arrived before we went any further w/ that musing.
