Collecting maple sap - drip by drip

Planned to take the walk early today while it was still sunny but the clouds came in earlier than forecast. It was still just above freezing so a nice temp for walking. My brother and sister-in-law are collecting sap in the maple grove. Found some pretty rocks on the bare ground to bring back to put on Ragnarok. Picked up white birch bark that the wind had peeled from the trees - makes great fire starters. Heard cranes but couldn't find them. Not an exciting walk but nice to have something different

going on besides snow and ice.

I recall when your brother gave his oldest brother a quart of maple syrup for his birthday. We might have used it once. After all it is an expensive commodity. When I got back from Memphis a couple weeks later the syrup was GONE! All of it! It is a labor of love. JVM
