Full Yule Moon and Lunar Eclipse

I got up early to see if I could get a picture of the lunar eclipse. There were layers of clouds so I could catch glimpses of stars but it didn't look good for a picture of the eclipse. The moon broke through the clouds finally and I took a picture - no eclipse yet. But then there was a wide break and I could watch the eclipse slowly eat into the top of a full moon. I also saw that the ski hill was making snow so they had all of their lights on. I realized that the arc of the setting moon would bring it right over the ski hill and got pretty excited about how cool a picture that would be - a lunar eclipse over a fully lit ski hill! However, as it got closer to dawn, the ski hill started shutting down the lights on the further runs (they tend to only make snow at night). Then there was a dark area just above the ski hill - a bank of thick clouds. So I didn't get the picture I hoped for. However, I was able to get some good pictures and can wistfully dream about the "one that got away."

"Scrumptious" picture and no night halo's either. Beautiful to see the moon and the ski hill together. Great art!
