Made our Somatic Cell Count goal last month so the owners treated us all to pizza tonight. I had often wondered why I can't seem to learn all of the cow's names & numbers like the rest of the crew has. I usually learn the cows who have issues but many of them don't last too long since - well - they have issues. Tonight as the pizza was passed and the Mello-Yello flowed, I found that many of my fellow milkers are in the same fix I am in. They know just some of the cows. However, they always mention the names of the cows they know when they come in so it sounds, to me, like they know all of them. One lady said she makes up most of the names she uses dependent on some cow characteristic (i.e. "Pickles" is a real sourpuss). I felt a little better about my inability to remember all of the individuals in the herd. Thinking about it, I've never been all that good w/ people names either. Just ask my former team members at Honeywell.

Your comment, "I usually learn the cows who have issues but many of them don't last too long since - well - they have issues", made me giggle because that is how I feel with my first graders this year!! There is the exception, however, that mine last for 9 months no matter what! :)
