Moon Halo

Every year the dairy owners hold a milking training class. Galen, the Land-O-Lakes field rep, came in and conducted it in the utility room.  Galen started out complimenting the dairy on being in the top 10% of low SCC in the region and being one of only 4 to receive a perfect score in the first year of the Land-O-Lakes Responsible Management program (no money awards w/ either of these, just bragging rights).  After Galen's presentation, the owners showed us their new toy.  It's an animated computer program showing how to milk.  The owners can adjust the program to any style of milking parlor and milking procedures.  As the program runs, a bottom line reminds the viewer of tips in how to milk and a side bar shows elapsed time and cows milked.  The program zooms in on what the milker is doing and also out to an overhead shot to show efficiency in movement.   It will be a great teaching tool for new milkers, a way to check out time changes caused by new procedures, and, let's face it, just a blast to watch.
