Porcupine Quills

Brother Phil and Sister-in-law Sheila arrived  late in the afternoon.  I  had received a 'tennis ball chucker' as a gift so Sheila and I went outside to play w/ Whip.  Whip was excited about running after the ball and would bring it back to us if we bribed her w/ a treat.   Her attention span though was pretty short and eventually she just ran after the ball and when it stopped she ran back to us sans ball.  Well, guess that could be a game too.  The day was overcast, in the 40's, w/ a strong wind. It didn't take long for us to also lose interest in retrieving the balls.   We went inside the house but Whip stayed out for awhile longer.  Later I heard her thump the front door so got up to let her in.  Three porcupine quills were sticking out of her muzzle.   They didn't look to be too far in and w/ Sheila holding her I was able to get two out fairly quickly.  Whip was now onto us.   It took Phil covering her eyes and steely determination on Sheila's part to remove that third one.  Phil didn't feel anymore quills in her mouth or gums.  Porcupines are slow movers but didn't find this one anywhere in the vicinity before it got too dark to see. For a porcupine encounter, Whip got off easy.
