Spring Beauty

Neighbor Anita and I took off at 7:30 a.m. for Winter Greenhouse.  We wanted to be there early 'cause it's getting close to Mother's Day and all greenhouses will be packed.   Still, did take time to have scones and coffee at the Toad House on the way.  (Really glad that they've expanded their hours of operation.)  We talked so much on the way up to Winter that we were there before we knew it.  Split up at the greenhouse.   Anita was looking for herbs mostly and I wanted to get a jump on the flowers that I needed for arrangements for Memorial Day.  One whole section of the greenhouse was filled w/ different colors and types of geraniums.  I went traditional red/white for Doug's, pink for Heidi's, something pretty for the parents, and something Avant-garde for the grandparents.  Picked up different colors for my aunt and uncle - not sure what they might have preferred.  Looked around for my list of other plants to pick up but couldn't remember where I put it.  Not a problem, will be coming here again before too long and I can pick up anything I forgot then. (Found it later in my back pocket.)   On the way back home I told Anita I remembered Mom talking about watching for when the tree leaves were the size of mouse ears.  The imagery had stuck w/ me but couldn't recall what happened then.   Anita recollected the saying too but also couldn't think of the rest of it.  Fortunately she remembered long enough after getting home to check it out on the Internet (what did we do before the Internet?)  and texted me a site that read "Once the oak leaves are the size of  little mouse's ears you have had your last frost."
