Barn Quilt
Arrived an hour ahead of time, latte in hand. This morning was the Public Test of the voting machine (in our case a tabulator). I planned on setting up the town hall for the election ahead of Chief Inspector Barb's arrival. The room was arranged as it is for Town Board meetings and it occurred to me that this Thursday might be the next meeting. Checked the calendar and next Thursday is the second one in the month. Texted Town Clerk Chris to let her know we'd do the Public Test today as planned but wouldn't set up the room until after the Town Board meeting. She thought that was a good idea. I'd just gotten her OK when my phone rang. Town Chairman Steve had seen my car at the town hall and wanted to know if everything was alright. (In the city you can do all sorts of things and no one notices or even remembers who you are. It's the opposite in the country.) Barb arrived and we started up the 'polls', ran the test, checked the results against how we 'voted', reset the count back to zero and shut down the system. While I applied locks on the machine so no one could change anything we had tested, Barb busied herself w/ going through the four boxes of voting materials we had accumulated. She got it down to one for the things we use each election, one for extras should we need them. Junk containing userids/passwords went home w/ me - I'll burn them in the fireplace. We finished in record time. Of course, still have a lot of work to do after Thursday's meeting but betting the town board will pitch in to help.
