Barn Quilt

First volunteer training meeting today with the new Librarian Colby.  As an ice-breaker (since we volunteers have met multiple times, I assume it was more for Colby to get to know us) she suggested we go around the table and say our favorite book genre or movie/TV show.  Some genres mentioned were mystery, sci-fi, history, inspirational, and even harlequins.  One lady said she really liked the Yellowstone series on TV which got quite a conversation going about all of the horrible things that happened on the show.  (Has no one ever watched I, Claudius?)  When it was my turn I said I liked cozy mysteries interspersed, when I started having bad dreams, with non-fiction.  Hoping to draw me out (I assume) Colby asked "Do you think you would play detective if you ever did find a dead body?"   "Of course" I said, "I'm always curious when I find a dead body."  Colby sat back a bit in her chair.  "You've found dead bodies?" she asked incredulously.  "All the time."  says I.  "and there isn't one that I haven't checked to see if I can tell how it died or who-done-it."  "Real dead bodies?" presses Colby.  "Well," I replied, "The squirrel and coon missing their heads certainly looked pretty dead.  I think that was the work of a bobcat."  I didn't elaborate further - the dead mice laying over a small tree branch (shrike), the dead coon carcass (road kill), nor the turkey breastbones (coyote).   Colby wanted to get to know us ... maybe best done is small doses.
