Got Snow?

Got an e-mail that our town would not have to hold a February primary.  The county board is up for reelection and, as you know, we only have one person running to represent our town.  Actually, she will represent only part of our town.  After the 2020 census, new districts were drawn and the county clerk and county board ripped parts off some of the towns in order to make all of the districts include around the same population.  Our town is internal to the county so portions of our town are included in three districts (at one time it was going to be five).  I'd pointed out at the time that state law says if the population is under 1000, it's not necessary to try to even out representation numbers but better to keep to existing municipality lines.  The county officials didn't listen.  So now: (1) When we elect county board rep we have to have three ballot types - one for each district and make sure each elector gets the proper ballot for which district they live in.  For all other elections everyone coming in to vote gets the same ballot.  (2) Even though someone lives in the town, may sit on the town board, and votes at the town hall, they may not be eligible to run as a county board rep for the majority of the town if they live in one of the fringe parts of the town that are in another district.  (3) Fortunately, we don't have to hold a February primary as I said but one of the other districts does.  Because parts were ripped from other municipalities to make up that one district, three different towns will have to hold a primary for that one seat.  It's possible our current county elected people are too tired to think straight.  Probably best to give them a rest and let others take their offices.
