Putting away Autumn
Suddenly my password on Amazon stopped working. I was trying a print-at-home gift card and instead of the usual e-mail w/ a download link, I was asked to sign in w/ a password. After a second failed try at the password (which I knew was correct), I clicked on the option 'forgot password'. A notice popped up to put in the one-time code which had been sent to my e-mail address. Only that e-mail address is the one I had a couple of years ago. I'd changed that on Amazon long ago and all communications with the company since then have been using the current email address. Must be a place buried in the bowels of Amazon where the old address still exists. Nothing else to do but make the dreaded call to the help-line. Surprisingly my call was answered within a few rings and a pleasant young man asked how he could help. OK, he had a distinct East Indian accent but I spent most of my years at Honeywell sitting next to Suresh Patel and working for Yashu Upadhyaya. I'm fairly attuned to that accent. He told me to get out of the application, come back in, make sure it was using the correct userid, and then put in my password again. While I was doing that he sent me a link to reset my password in case his first idea didn't work. It worked the first time. All help lines are not created equal.
