Mergansers stopping by

The local weatherman has created a new term "First Alert Weather Day".  He explained that it means the weather will be changing significantly on that day.  In this case, expect a lot of rain, high winds, and temps cooling even more into next week.  He's been mentioning it every day this week and tomorrow is it.  Not sure why he's making a big deal about it but decided it wouldn't hurt to prepare.  Most everything is tucked away already 'cause we've had a few frosts this week.  High winds might cause a loss of electrical service.  For an all-electric powered house that's bad.  Filled a bucket w/ water - just in case.  No reason I can't set the jigsaw puzzle table up early.  Clean out the fireplace and set up some logs in there.  Need to do those things anyway.   Washed a load of clothes.  Won't be able to dry them on the line tomorrow.   I got the 'fixins' for chili - a little autumnal comfort food can't go amiss on a bad weather day.   Went out on the deck and moved the rocking foot rest and Adirondack foot rests that don't fit underneath their chairs close to their sides.   I'd left them out because on sunny days I still sit on the deck.    Other years they've gone airborne off the end of the deck.   Filled up a garbage bag w/ stuff I should have gotten rid of but hadn't yet.   Tossed that into the garbage bin near the end of the road to keep it in place so it won't be blown around.  Then took the rain gauge I'd put away (don't want water to freeze in it) and brought it back out.  Heavy cloud cover should keep temps above freezing and I wanted an idea of how much credence I should give the weatherman's next "First Alert Weather Day."
