Library Display

I got a call around 2 p.m. The on-duty library volunteer wanted to give me a head's-up that the library had no A/C.  I don't handle heat well but it didn't seem all that bad in the country plus I could hear the far off rumble of a thunderstorm.  When I arrived for duty the library was a bit humid and warm.  The librarian was concerned the paper in the books would swell and mildew could set in.  Pretty sure that wasn't likely to happen in a few days (however, never store books in a basement!).  I asked when the A/C would be fixed.  The village owns the building and uses one half for their offices.  The library rents the other half.  I was told the Village Board had to meet first in order to allocate money for the fix, holding an emergency meeting costs money, and the village's portion of the building is getting some cooling.   The Village Board said they would wait until the next regular meeting on Monday.  If that story is true, it's very concerning.  The village doesn't have a maintenance fund for such contingencies?  An emergency meeting only costs the amount paid to each board member for a special meeting.   How much are these guys getting per meeting?   Time is running short for a fix.  Next week starts our Summer Reading Program and according to the stats, we have our highest number of patrons coming in (mostly young children).   On the 10th the library is holding a book sale.  Plus the Historical Society put in a library display this week about the history of baseball in  the area.  I sent a pic off to the local paper to see if we could get a little publicity.   Hope the library will be a 'cool' place to visit this summer.
