When the power went out for a few days last winter, I'd resorted to burning wood in the fireplace to keep warm and quickly run through all of the pieces I had in the house. I keep the rest of the firewood piled outside along the dog run. That's easily accessible except when there is a five foot drift to trudge through to get to it. That same drift covered the wood pile. When I got the snow off the wood the pieces were iced together in a solid block. Decided then to move the outside wood pile inside when things thawed out. Bought a firewood rack but left it unassembled and unopened in the garage. Brent doesn't seem to want to sit on the deck w/ his feet propped up. This morning he assembled the rack - which fits nicely underneath the garage shelves - and we moved a couple of pieces of white birch in to see how it would look. Will put the dry wood on one end and the fresh wood on the other. Longer pieces on the bottom so they span the width of the rails. Put a heavier log over the center piece which had raised up when there is weight added on either end. Rather enjoyable to plan for those cold winter days during a rather warm summer one.
