Still Skiing

Neighbor Doug called and asked if I'd gotten a letter from the garbage pickup company.  The letter sent to him started out "In order to serve you better ..." (this never ends well).  Spring road bans are due to begin on Friday.  There is still a couple of feet of snow on the fields but I suppose the ground under the roads might start thawing?  Anyway, garbage trucks are too heavy for the town roads during the 50-60 days before the ground stabilizes.  For the last few years the board has let the garbage company leave collection bins at the town hall so people had a place to take their garbage but between people acting like pigs and the garbage trucks doing damage, they wore out their welcome.  Other communities must feel the same way since the three sites Doug's letter states are available for him to take his  garbage to are all over 50 miles away.  Yikes!  I didn't get the letter since I live on a county road which is built for higher weight limit tolerances.   My garbage will be picked up during road bans.   I let Doug know we could share my bin during the bans but he was thinking he might bring over his bin and store it next to mine for the duration.  That way he doesn't have to be concerned about how much garbage he may have week to week.  Sounds like a good plan ...  much better than the one the garbage company put forward 'to serve you better.'
