Pink Sun

I like that the president is required to report yearly on the State of the Union.  They tout the good things that happened in the past year and the better things they hope for the future.  I also like that usually  the Senate, House, and Supreme Court all sit down together to listen to it and shake hands before and afterwards.  I appreciate just the bit of pomp and circumstance surrounding the whole procedure.  Too bad heckling the pres has become common - I think it's degrading when I see it happen in the English parlament and creates no positive outcome.  I also don't get the following rebuttal speech by the opposing party.  We elected one president and constitutionally it's required that she must give this report.   I don't see why I should listen to a 'hate-fest' immediately after that report.  Let people/parties disagree w/ part or all of what the pres said the next day in the usual media outlets.  So tonight when I attended the monthly Town Board Meeting I took my words to heart and was the model of decorum.  As usual, only the elected officials showed up for it - and this time me too.  When it came time for the Public Comment section of the meeting, the board all turned to look at me.  I kept my hands in my pockets and smiled back.  The meeting was adjourned in less than 1/2 hour.   I'd texted the town clerk yesterday and asked if I could set up for the next election immediately after tonight's meeting.  I'd let her know my ulterior motive was that I'd have help moving the heavy tables.  When the board realized why I was there they pitched in and we were done within 10 minutes.  Elected official's job is to help us, right?
