Headed back to the forest

The dog and I were seated on the sofa watching the morning news.  She's always interested in the people trying to immigrate at the country's southern border and I wanted to admire/dis the Golden Globe fashions.  Not much to see outside.  Another foggy morning.   Seated on the sofa my view is the snow drift on the deck, the very tops of the shepherd hooks, and a white sky.  That's why I was surprised to see large brown eyes flanked by wide spread brown ears peaking up over the drift.  A deer had come across the meadow for a sunflower seed 'dessert' before bedding down in the forest until nightfall.  She had cleaned the feeders out and now was stretching her neck so she could just see over the snowdrift and check on what was going on inside.    Couldn't help myself, I started laughing which started the dog barking which started the deer running.   OK,  I needed to get up and active anyway.     Went outside and filled the feeders again.  The dog sniffed around where the deer had stood but even her lab legs were a bit too short to follow the deer's trail back to the wood.
