Crows congregating before dawn
This time of year spring is more about sounds. The town road bans just went on and, while there isn't a lot of traffic on the county road past my place, I do notice the quiet since the cattle hauling, gravel, and logging trucks can't run until the bans go off. Heard again the sandhill cranes and red-winged blackbirds though I didn't see them. The crows are staking out territory. I saw a pair chasing a raven. Canadian geese are flying over in small groups. Heard a crack as the ice on Gorgeous Gorge moved and fissured. Later, I got a call from the town chairman. Another member of the Planning Committee had dropped out and since I too was leaving soon, he was in a spot. The chairman and I have known each other for years and he knows I'm a sucker for a little praise. He spread it on and I agreed to stay on til August. We also talked a little about the upcoming election and I suggested he should run for county supervisor. He said he was interested but it was too late to get on the ballot. Ah ... but it's never to late for people to write your name in on a ballot.
