Stockade

A new inch or so of snow overnight.  Could track where the rabbits had danced in the forecourt last night and  three deer as they came down the driveway, rounded the side of the house to check out the bird feeders.  Wouldn't be very many seeds in them.  Word has gotten out and there seem to be a few more birds each morning waiting for me to refill the feeders.  I also toss some sunflowers on the snowdrift near the windows so the cats can get a closeup look.  The little birds landed in the snow this morning and sank in.  Was wondering how they would get out but they just used the same 'take-off' muscles to jump around the top of the drift.    I watched one finch land in a hole in the drift.  Could only see the top of it's head.  However, it didn't seem concerned.  It flared out it's wings so they were atop the snow and hopped up and out of the hole.   He's done that little maneuver before.
