Downy Woodpecker
A series of doctor appointments today. First my yearly checkup (known once you are on Medicare as 'Wellness Checkup") w/ the doc. Her nurse and the doc both spent a lot of time complaining about the new computer system. The doc said it was in use as a hospital system and the clinic was the first group to be using it in this type of setting. The doc said she had worked w/ a systems analyst to explain the changes necessary to convert the original hospital system for their needs. Nobody seemed happy w/ the result. The doc said all of my lab tests were within norms. She asked if I had any problems. When I said my heel hurt she practically beamed! A policy change at the clinic meant everyone seen needed to be sent home w/ educational materials of some sort. She printed out plantar fasciitis care instructions. My takeaway from our appointment was different. Never tell the doc that you disagree w/ a diagnosis (I told her I didn't believe I actually had Lymes disease last summer) and always laugh at their jokes (I said my neck hurt sometimes and she replied I wasn't a fan of 'Arthur' - meaning arthritis - and I said that if you have to explain a joke it isn't funny.) I put her testiness down to exasperation w/ the new software system. After I was released from the doc's office I walked the corridor connecting the clinic to the hospital. There I had an annual mammogram. As I've said before if this test was done on men's testicles there would be no money spared in finding another testing method. Then I was on to a bone density test. Rewarded myself for enduring all of the morning's required touching by stopping for a latte on the way out of town.
