Pollen on Ice

Whip ventured out on the ice of Gorgeous Gorge.  I'd been keeping her away other days but since I was down on the ice today it was hard to keep her off too.  I was checking on why the south edge of the pond looked like it was dirty.   Turned out to be pollen and other detritis from the fields that had blown in by the gale-force north winds last week.   The other thing I noticed was there were no soft spots on the ice.  Other years you could see where small springs coming up from under the pond would create dark spots in the milky ice.  There aren't any this year.  I think the water table has fallen enough so it no longer hits the bottom of the pond.  Nothing a boat-load of snow this winter wouldn't fix.
