Chicken

Russell and Donna caught Covid.  They've got family checking in on them and helping out.  My part is to feed the chickens once a day.  Not a difficult task.  Put food in the feed trough and check that they have water.  I figured now was as good a time as any to clean out my refridgerator so whenever I feed the chicks I toss out a few food stuffs on the ground for them - corn, rice, chickpeas, greens, apples, banana peels, etc.  Chickens must be the Aves equivelent to goats 'cause they will eat anything (remember - no avocados).   They also can be quite smart.  I put a handful of feed on one of the slats of their roost.  Two chickens saw me do it and remembered.  When I come in those two go up on the roost and wait for their individual helping of grain.  Of course, when I bent over to pick up an empty water bin, another chicken flew from the roost to sit on my back.  Would have been a bit unnerving if it didn't bring back childhood memories of chickens doing the same thing back then.  I will give one piece of advice if you ever need to take care of chicks - never go in barefoot.  Toes look delicious to  a chicken.
