Woke up around 2 a.m. when the storm came through. Lay there enjoying the show until a streak of lightening and the boom of thunder came simultaniously. Got up to check that none of my buildings were burning and the electricity was still on. The storm had passed on by the time I and Whip went out on our constitutional. I had breakfast and then we went back out to water the plants. Stopped when I was poised to water the first flower. Got a half inch of rain last night - no need to water today. Instead I sat on the deck to do a crossword puzzle. Whip was waiting for me to toss a treat out onto the lawn. She quickly turned her head to snap at a bug next to her face. She's been eating deer flies, horse flies, and grasshoppers lately. This particular insect was a bee. Suddenly she lept up, snapped her jaws a few times, did a lap around the lawn, flopped down on the grass to do a roll. She seemed to be OK after that. Maybe she's learned the lesson to 'look before you bite' or 'a bee in the mouth is worth ten buzzing around your face' or 'you can't judge an insect by it's buzz', or 'a bee's sting is worse than it's buzz' or whatever other adage I can mangle.
