More Daylilies
I'm reading a book that is a factual account of WWII battles. Got to thinking just how lucky America is that war was fought in the '40's and not now. The draft was initiated in 1940 to conscript men into military service. At home Americans were urged to buy bonds and endure rationing of sugar, gas, butter, milk, etc. The nation as a whole pulled together to stop a threat to their and the world's freedom. Now we are faced w/ a virus that has spread world wide. It has killed more Americans in one year than died in the five years of WWII. Fortunately, American labs were able to create a vaccine and manufacturers distribute enough of that vaccine to protect every American. A shot in the arm - yet half of the population has resisted getting it. That half rail about their personal rights and balk at using manual means (masks, distancing, no big gatherings) that could mitigate spreading the virus. What would have happened if these people had been asked to sacrifice for the common good in WWII? Doesn't sound like the makings of 'The Greatest Generation' to me.
