Big Bluestem
When Whip and I go out on the deck, I bring along treats. We play a game similar to what retrievers are bred to do - sit next to the hunter until the hunter shoots something. Then the dog jumps up and goes out to retrieve whatever the hunter killed. The dog can't always see where the prey landed so they rely on their nose to locate it. On the deck Whip sits next to me until I toss a treat out onto the lawn and she runs out to find it. Does my ego good when she starts searching further out than I can possibly throw. After that it's like watching a Roomba transit through the house. She puts nose to the ground and goes through her own unique search pattern to find the morsel. She jumps back up by me and sits, waiting, whenever she's ready for another tidbit. It's true that she doesn't exactly bring anything back but then she's only part retriever.
