Dunder made a dash for the outdoors and freedom when I opened the back door this morning.  I couldn't go after him immediately.  Mike the builder was on a ladder working on the purlins and I thought it would make a good picture.  I went to the end of the deck and started taking photos.  I was just finishing when I heard a thud on the deck.  Looked over and Dunder was jumping frantically into a open window. He couldn't get a good purchase because of the screen, he fell down to the deck, and jumped up again.  When I reached him he jumped into my arms.  Odd.   I looked out over the meadow for signs of a coyote or maybe a fox.  Didn't see anything but the grasses are getting quite tall.    A couple of nights last week Whip had barked at a skunk at the edge of the deck.  The skunk had ducked under the deck each time w/o retaliation and I had hoped it's visit was transitory.   Dunder loves zipping under the deck and I can imagine how scared he might be if he came nose to nose w/ a skunk.  I gave his fur a tentative sniff ... nothing.  Well, something had scared Dunder badly. Later in the day, friend Nancy stopped by and we sat on the shady side of the deck.  Whip was nosing around and suddenly I could smell, as Nancy put it, Eau de Skunk.  Checked Whip, no smell on her.  My guess is she surprised the skunk and it let loose while it was under the deck.  Anyway, if you come for a visit thought I'd let you know there is a  bottle of hydrogen peroxide and a box of baking soda in the medicine cabinet - you know - just in case.
