Common Merganser

Picked up heirloom tomato plants at the first Farmer's Market on Friday.  I didn't know anything about the various types so asked the farmer to pick out plants for me.  He handed me a German Johnson, a Black Krim, a Mortgage Lifter, a Green Zebra, and, I think, a Pink Blossom.   Plus I received a special tomato plant I want to try out from my neighbor Anita.  Planted them in the garden today.  First issue was to see if I had enough tomato cages.  Last fall I'd found a butterfly chrysalis on one of my tomato cages while I was clearing out the garden.  I overwintered it in Mjolnir's garage along w/ all of the plants.  The plants kept the humidity up and when I watered them, I water the chrysalis.   I moved it outside this week.  No activity so probably the little insect didn't make it through the winter but I'll give it a little while longer.  Fortunately, I did have enough tomato cages w/o needing that one.  Phil cultivated the garden while he was here so the soil was all loose - easy to plant stuff.  After planting I gave them all a good drink of water.  Am pretty excited to see what kind of tomatoes I get (and if I can tell when they are ripe.)
