Road bans went off today. It's kind of a 'Winter has left the building' moment in the Northwoods. Officially these weight bans weren't removed until noon. The weatherman talked about wind chills and in a last (hopefully) good-bye, snowflakes swirled in front of my windows all morning. I removed my beloved garden post from in front of Mjolnir. Mike the builder had reminded me that cement truck drivers aren't as careful as other construction workers and I decided, at least until after the cement floor is laid, to move the post out of harm's way. It has been easy to install and remove in the past but I had some difficulty w/ it today. Turns out there is a lot of water two feet below the surface of the ground and the inner wood pole had swollen a bit. Not much but enough to make it stick in the sleeve. A little careful finagling and all that marks the spot now is a post cap at ground level.
