Sunrise - March 18

Walked the swamp road.  Might have been the first time I was able to do that in March.  Instead of going in through the gravel pit we took the cut through the swamp.  Not an easy path to take but the deer have broken a trail through and it connects directly to the swamp road.  Unfortunately I'm taller than a deer.  There is a tree tipped down over their trail which the deer can get under but I can't.  I picked my way around the downed tree and then found the trail again.  Except not the correct trail.  I got on some off-shoot that ended up crossing a fen and dropping me in front of a  barbed wire fence.  The swamp road was just a short jaunt from there across an open area but  I'd better figure out the correct connecting path before the fen thaws or the next time I'll be left sinking into the muck.   The swamp was doing it's thing.  It's still frozen but you can see in places where water has been flowing over the ice and refreezing.  The swamp will slowly release all that water in the future.   Only birds were chickadees.  No plants coming up.   Still had a glorious time.   Whip was a little tired when we made it back - of course, w/ all of her criss-crossing the path, she walked four times as far as I did.
