Sunrise - March 15

Got my hair cut today (or as Grandpa used to say, "I got them all cut."  It's a German thing.)  The place I go to has only one chair so it was only I and the owner there.  We have both gotten all of our shots (sounds like we are dogs).  She said some clients  earlier this week told her they would never get the shot because it would "change their genes."  (Would have thought people around here were smarter than to believe that.)   The subject turned to a tiny bear (50 lbs maybe) that was in her  backyard in early February before the cold snap hit.  She called the DNR (Dept. of Natural Resources).  Two guys came out, snared the tiny thing, and took it to a rehabilitation center just north of us.  The DNR thought it might have been the cub of a first-time mother who had denned up in a bad spot (such as a culvert) and she abandoned the cub when the den became exposed or inundated w/ water.  Possibly the bear had twins and she carried off one to a safer place for the remainder of the winter.  This cub tried to follow and became lost.   Either way, this little guy will have a chance now to grow up and eventually be released back into the forest.  (One more reason to carry bear spray on my walks.)
