Sleipnir prep
Called Digger's Hotline before work begins on Sleipnir. Actually, I got on the website. Not too bad an interface and the best part is a satellite image of my house so I could indicate on the map exactly where the shed would be placed. (I'm fine giving N/S/E/W directions but a little dodgy on left/right.) Requested a check of the area staked plus 10 feet beyond perimeter. Digger's Hotline e-mailed me a copy of my request including the utilities notified. Jump River Electric came out first. She left a little white flag to prove she'd been here but I'm not a part of their grid so she did nothing. (I'm right at the edge between two electric companies). Next came the telephone company who also left a little flag in the middle of the staked area w/ "No Conflict" written on it. Am surprised the telephone company and wrong electrical company came out to check. Thought they would have maps showing where they have existing buried lines. Neither has lines within 500 feet of me. Wonder if they are required by law to come out -or- if they are being extra careful? The third truck to come out was Xcel Energy. That was the guy I wanted to talk to. He was already doing exactly what I wanted - putting little red flags in the ground showing where the main power line to my house snakes under the field. There isn't any plan to dig on this project but I didn't want to build or add fill on top of this electrical line either. "No." he answered my question "Looks like you'll be far enough away."
