Primary Day. First day the new tabulator machine saw real action. Things went well. We closed the polls at 8 p.m. and all of the poll workers were in their cars and pulling out of the parking lot by 8:39. As for the voters - it was hit and miss. There was only one state-wide race on the ballot w/ eight people running. This was a non-partisan office so no party affiliation. The first voter received his ballot, walked to a booth to mark his ballot, and just stood there looking at the ballot. After five minutes, I was getting concerned. He'd made a comment coming in that he didn't know why he was voting since 'they' would just change his vote. I assured him we had no way to do that and he replied the government managed to steal the last election. Ohhh boy. Was he working up the courage to shoot us all? I stood up. I was closest to the door so figured I had a chance of making it out if he shot the other poll workers first. (Yeah, I know, gotta cut back on the murder mysteries again.) However, when I stood I could tell he was scrolling through his smart phone. He had no idea who the people on the ballot were and was looking them up one by one. The next two voters also joked about a 'stolen election' and also took time to look up the candidates. After that, things streamlined. The rest of the people coming in knew the candidate they wanted and only made pleasantries w/ us. After we closed the polls, for the first time I was able to mark the 'No Incidents' box on the Inspector's Report (in duplicate, of course).

While I don't believe the election was stolen at all, we are seeing signs of censorship of ideas that don't line up with what ever a group thinks is correct. That can be a dangerous thing. Most recent examples. NYC said fine to paint black lives matter on some street in NYC. Now when a group of trump women wanted to paint something about trump on the streets they said no. Another example is NYC Mayor is now finally saying he didn't tell the truth on nursing home deaths after forcing them to take covid patients. All the news channel have talked about it except CNN. Oh that happens to be where the Mayor's brother is an announcer. No matter what side we are on; history shows us that censorship leads to bad things. It starts small and then becomes acceptable. Flip
Fortunately we have the courts to help keep everyone fair.
