Christmas at the Library

The Village Christmas Celebration was cancelled this year.  No Santa & kids pictures.  No games in the library stacks put on by the Scouts.  No free soup and cookies sponsored by the Village Hall next door.  At the last meeting, Friends of the Library (FOL) made up gift bags for children.   Parents could call the library and let us know the age of their child(ren) and which day they would be picking up their bag(s) - Saturday, Monday, or Wednesday.  The Wednesday shift was manned by Alice and I.   The library had received more calls than expected so FOL president Nancy also came to take additional calls and fill more bags with an age-appropriate book, coloring crayons or pencils, drawing pads, and lots of candy.  In all we handed out well over 100 bags.  The Village Hall also is giving away free stuff but it's cases of water.  Recent tests of village's well water came back with an abnormally high manganese count.   Until the problem is found and/or rectified, the village residents will have to rely on bottled water.
