Doe and Fawn

A nice overcast morning.  Got my hiking shoes out and threw the camera bag over my shoulder.  I planned on checking birdhouses today.  Before I could open the back door I saw something different in the meadow.  Picked up my binoculars.  It was a deer and a new born fawn.  She was licking it and it was still working out balancing on it's legs.  The doe gradually led the fawn out of the meadow toward Gorgeous Gorge.   I'd noticed before that deer like to give birth close to a house.  I did my best to scare off coyotes earlier this year and the smell of a dog discourages most bear.  The deer is familiar w/ my comings and going.
Makes the meadow a relatively safe place.   Late this afternoon the doe and fawn were back.  She sought out a low spot halfway between the woods and the house and lay down.  The fawn, though, was not ready for sleep.  It was much better on it's legs now and went jumping around through the tall grass.  It made a large circle around the doe, stopping here and there to check out a tall weed or sniff something.  I don't want to disturb them but do need to go outside to pick up somethings before the rainstorm due tonight.  Guess I can wait another hour.

Do you suppose that was the doe we saw last week?
