Saw the first red-winged blackbird on the walk today. He had staked out a prime location in a tree at Gorgeous Gorge and was singing loudly to let everyone know it. I'll listen for him in tomorrow's morning chorus (which consists so far of crows, turkeys, and the Sandhill cranes). Current thought is that birds are the decedents of dinosaurs. I walked on along the ridge thinking how loud it must have been during the Mesozoic.
