1991 - 1941: A World at War

This was first sheet of a series of stamps commemorating the 50th anniversary of World War II.  Each sheet contained two sets of ten stamps and a world map.  A new sheet was issued each year corresponding to the five years of the war.   This map and stamps were meant to show the countries at war while pinpointing major events.  1941 stamps depicted Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill meetings, gas masks, liberty ships, bombing of Pearl Harbor, first peacetime draft, the Burma Road, etc.    Brent and I were just watching one of my favorite movies - Where Eagles Dare (little dialog, mystery, and lots of explosions - what's not to like!)  Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood aren't shown however on any of the stamps.  7.5 million stamps were printed and first day of issue was September 3, 1991 in Phoenix, Arizona.  Scott # 2559 a-j
