Foggy Sunrise

I and the librarian represented the library at the Annual Night Out in the park.  We had a table w/ brochures and a big bowl of candy.  Children at the festivities were playing a game which was a cross between scavenger hunt and bingo.  They were given a sheet w/ a grid.  Each square in the grid had an activity that the child needed to perform before someone w/ a name tag signed off on it.  (All of us manning tables had name tags.)  Once a child had names in all of the squares in a straight line they received a prize.  The first youngsters of the night came to our table, grabbed candy, and asked if we could sign on any of the squares.  Kathy, the librarian, looked at the sheet.  She signed her name in the square labeled "My Favorite Librarian".  Their little eyes turned on me.  I looked at the sheet.  There was a square for 'Sing a song.'  "You could sing a song for me." I told them.  Nope, they were way too shy for that.  "It's my birthday tomorrow." I said.  "Can you sing 'Happy Birthday'?  That they could do and even w/ smiles!  Kathy and I suggested that song every time a child hesitated singing.  I lost count of how may times I heard 'Happy Birthday' sung tonight.  Now I just need a cake.
