Eidelweiss Grapes

Stopped during the walk to pick some 'low hanging fruit' from a wild apple tree.  Apple trees aren't native to this area but I have some sprinkled through out the fields.  I'm pretty sure no one would plant them there.  The apples were crisp and very tart yet.  It's a good year for the apples on my side of the road.  I have two trees in the stockade.  One is just for pollination but both trees are heavy w/ fruit.  All of the apples I've picked so far are insect free.  A good way of maintaining worm-free apples is to pick up the apples that fall to the ground and are a breeding ground for the insects that feed on apples.  No need to worry about that w/ the wild trees - the coon, deer, and bear make sure that the area is kept very clean.  Should they miss an apple, the grouse will find it and peck it clean.

4 years ago when I put my grape arbor in is when I should have planted these types of grapes. Instead I have Concord, Niagra and Catawba which are doing well. Carolyn

I would like to try to make wind but haven't found a good wine-making kit yet.
