I'm not a big fan of rain gutters. Figured they were one more place where something could go wrong - especially w/ the amount of snow we get. Plus the house and the new garage are in the middle of a field w/ the land sloping away from the buildings. The contractor said I might want to consider them on the driveway side of the new building. He thought a rain gutter would prevent splashing dirt up on the building. That made sense. I'll treat it like an experiment and if it works well will consider putting them on the other side of the new garage and maybe on my house. (The cement pad outside my front door and garage had cracked and might be moving. The subcontractor said excess water coming off the roof was exacerbating the issue.) Anyway a rain gutter was attached pretty quickly on a Saturday morning. Have had only one rainstorm since then but so far so good.
P.S. - I don't refer to them as 'gutters' since that term has a different connotation on the farm.
