Thyme probably comes to us from the Greek word 'thymon'. Chimera is from a Greek word also - 'cheimon'. Sphagnum moss too has Greek origins in the word 'sphagnos'. These words entered English in the 14th century. I tend to pronounce 'herb' w/o the 'h' sound so guess that could count as another word where we drop the 'h'. (By the way, can you tell I like Penzeys spices?)

You can't get better than Penzey's spices! Love them.
