E - Ruffed Grouse

I hear ruffed grouse thrumming the air w/ their wings all year long.  A male does it more to say that 'this is my territory' rather than 'I'm looking for love.'  These grouse are native to the Northwoods and are adapted to living here.  In fact they prefer climes w/ snow for part of the year.  Some years ago Missouri did a deal w/ my state.  Some of our ruffed grouse were shipped to Missouri and we got some of their wild turkey.  (When I was growing up here there were no wild turkey that I saw.)  The ruffed grouse sent to Missouri never did take hold and I wonder if they just don't have enough snow for them to thrive.  The turkey sent here, on the other hand, are flourishing.
