The new librarian and the Mitten Tree
Tonight was the Friends of the Library Christmas meeting. Traditionally we have a short meeting, decorate the library for Christmas, have a snack and then play games and open gifts. Each person brings a finger-food snack and a $5 gift to swap. I'm not good at either of those things. Fortunately my sister Connie had put me in charge of making little shish-kebobs of fresh fruit for Thanksgiving. Seemed simple enough. I got blueberries, green grapes, raspberries, sliced up an apple, cut up a pineapple, cubed some cheddar cheese, halved strawberries. Gave everything a wash in Lemon-Lime Sprite and made individual skewers. For a gift I stayed w/ something I know and stopped off at the Post Office. I bought various Christmas stamps and put them in a small box. (Went over the $5 limit though). I realize a gift of stamps is the same as getting 'underwear & socks' as a child (i.e. boring and practical) but on the plus side they will be worth 10% more come January when the price of postage goes up again.
